I just discovered a book by Architect William J. Hirsch Jr. AIA entitled Designing Your Perfect House: Lessons from an Architect (November 1, 2008) that I think is a great book on the thinking and planning process for prospective new home builders (and contains design advice that is certainly useful for remodeling too).
